Mesa Boogie 5 Band EQ for FX Loops (150th pedal built)

Mesa Boogie 5 Band Gyrator EQ pedal for FX Loops (150th pedal build)

A DIY adaption of a Mesa Boogie 5 band eq found in many Mesa Boogie amps. Original tonestack has inductors but it was changed and adapted to op amp gyrators. I even used quality lower noise original Burr Brown OPA4134 ICs 😎

A simple sample using a modded Crate BV120 and a 2xV30 cab intentionally for that mid spike to show the EQ functionality of getting the nice “Mesa V shape scooped” thing: https://youtu.be/X6227tEaMVY?si=pDV_vWboIqEb0DKH

Friedman Buxom Boost clone (149th pedal built)

 Friedman Buxom Boost Clone

(149th pedal built)

Absolutely awesome sound with the EQ feature and the “tight” knob on the boost section. A real keeper for pushing an amp (like a Hughes&Kettner Tubemeister 18) into “mean” territory. I tested it at a friend’s house during some practice runs

Fortin 33 Fredrik Thordendal Boost Clone (148th pedal built)

At its core this is basically a TC Electronic Integrated Preamp(discontinued), with fixed resistors for bass and highs instead of having pots, this is what the Fortin 33 is actually.

The hype to me for this pedal is real and I really love it with my amps.

As a general idea: you feed it ONLY 9V MAX (this makes then internally about 30V), it gives a 22dB max boost, it drops bass while emphasizing highs and overall gives a great eq shape to push a medium gain amp into great palm mutes/chuggy sound. It is especially great for low tunings for focus in the lower end spectrum and remove the ''flab''. It is also great for solos IMO because it gives that great compressor-with-full-sustain-legato-feel, which makes playing a breeze. It has some normal hiss at full but no more than a compressor for example. Again, this drops some bass and emphasizes highs, this is an important mention, and this pedal is useful from 2-3 O’clock to maxed, with a more dark medium gain to higher setting on the amp, else it’s just a mild non pushing clean boost with highs, that drops bass anywhere below that. If you want a booster build that retains the bass full or only light bass reduction with normal highs, this is not for you.

Ibanez RG570 MIJ Tinkering

Working on an RG570 Japan Ibanez that I bought as parts:

-refretted it nicely and slimmed the fretboard sides a bit + rounded the wood
-did a custom wood trussrod cover and also did the control cavity and jack in plates as well (added copper foil to the undersides)
-added a Schaller floyd and so I dremelled the cavity a bit but found a similar paint and it’s like it was never touched heh
-swapped the magnets between the Japanese Ibanez V7 and V8 pickups (the alnico from the bridge one is now on the neck, and the ceramic from the neck is now on the bridge) -> much better sound, BUT I swapped in the end to DiMarzio Gravity Storm, totally different ballgame, and also did a rewiring with a different schematic
-in the end I added a Titanium Alloy Nut made in Japan, which has a much better and tighter spacing from E to E for this redone neck and refret(also did a steel shim neck from scratch for the new nut)
